Vinyl acetate is a polar organic monomer with good solubility. It is miscible with most organic solvents including ethanol, acetone, benzene, toluene and xylene, but poorly soluble in water (solubility in water is about 2.5 g/100 mL at 20 °C). It has high volatility and can be mutually dissolved with polymer monomers such as ethylene and vinyl chloride, which provides favorable conditions for its polymerization reaction and copolymerization modification.
Polymer Material Industry: It is the core raw material for producing polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH). The products are widely used in the preparation of adhesives, coatings and textile sizing agents.
Copolymer Synthesis: It can copolymerize with ethylene, vinyl chloride, acrylic acid and other monomers to produce ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer and other products. These copolymers are used in the fields of shoe materials, packaging films, and waterproof materials.
Adhesive & Coating Industry: Directly used in the formulation of water-based adhesives and low-toxicity coatings, suitable for wood processing, paper bonding and building decoration industries.
Health Hazards: Inhalation of its vapor can cause irritation to the respiratory tract, leading to cough, chest tightness and sore throat. Direct contact with skin and eyes will cause redness, swelling and burning pain. Prolonged exposure may damage the central nervous system, resulting in dizziness, fatigue and nausea.
Fire & Explosion Risks: It is a highly flammable liquid, and its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air at room temperature (explosion limit: 2.6%–13.4% in volume). It is easy to cause combustion and explosion when exposed to open flames, high temperatures or oxidants.
Handling Precautions: Store in a cool, ventilated and fire-proof warehouse, away from heat sources and open flames. Seal the container tightly to prevent volatilization. During operation, wear anti-static work clothes, chemical protective gloves and safety goggles. If accidental leakage occurs, cut off the fire source immediately and use sand or inert absorbent to absorb the leakage.
